Your company's public address

The address partners see for your company: your A-REX Platform address, an address on your organization's domain, or one on your own domain, and how to verify it.

Every company on the A-REX Platform has a public address: the address partners see for your company. There are three kinds, and partners always see exactly one of them.

AddressExampleWhat you do
A-REX Platform addressyourcompany.a-rex.orgNothing. Every company has one from the start.
Your organization's domainyourcompany.yourgroup.comYour organization verifies its domain once; the company adds one DNS record.
Your own domaintrace.yourcompany.comThe company adds two DNS records.

Partners see your own address only once it is verified. Until then, and whenever it can no longer be verified, they see your A-REX Platform address. Once it is verified, your company identity (the name your signed product passports carry) uses it too, and the passports you signed before still check.

Sandbox companies never have a public page. You can still try the setup there.

Choose your address

Owners and admins choose it in the company setup (step Public address) or later in Settings ▸ Company. You are asked to confirm with your second factor.

  1. Select one of the tiles. The line above them always says which address partners see now.
  2. For Your organization's domain, type the name you want under the domain (your company's short name is suggested). For Your own domain, type an address you keep only for this, such as trace.yourcompany.com.
  3. Select Use this address. The records to publish appear below.
  4. Ask whoever manages the DNS to add them, then select Check now, or wait: A-REX checks every few minutes. DNS changes can take up to a few hours.

The status reads Waiting for DNS, then Certificate pending while A-REX gets the security certificate, then Verified. A-REX checks the records every day.

Give your companies your organization's domain

An organization with several companies can verify its domain once, so each company only adds one record. Owners and admins of the organization do this in the group setup (step Domain) or in Organization ▸ Security.

  1. Type the domain, such as yourgroup.com, or a subdomain you keep for this, such as trace.yourgroup.com, and select Use this domain.
  2. Add the TXT record shown at your DNS provider, then select Check now.
  3. When it reads Verified, each company can choose Your organization's domain in its settings.

Each company address needs its own CNAME record pointing to domains.a-rex.org. With many companies, one record *.yourgroup.com pointing to domains.a-rex.org covers all of them.

Addresses on one organization domain show partners that the companies belong to the same group. A company that does not want this keeps its A-REX Platform address or uses its own domain.

When an address is no longer found

If a record disappears, the status reads No longer found and partners see your A-REX Platform address again at once. Owners and admins are told. Publish the record again and select Check now. If your organization's domain is no longer found, every company with an address on it shows Waits for the organization's domain and goes back to its A-REX Platform address until the organization's record is back. The owners and admins of the organization's companies are told.

An organization cannot stop using its domain while companies still have an address on it: the page lists them, so each one can choose another address first.

Who can use a domain

  • Only a company or organization that proved it controls a domain can use it.
  • Addresses on an organization's domain can only be used by that organization's companies.
  • Names such as www or mail are reserved and cannot be chosen.
  • A-REX never shows your address before its records are verified.
