When you record a harvest on a plot that has a location, A-REX adds the weather at that plot on that day: the lowest and highest temperature, the rain that day and in the 3 and 7 days before, the humidity and the strongest wind. It helps you and your buyers read the harvest: rain at harvest time, for example, often means more drying.
Where to see it
Open the lot in Lots and go to the Story tab. Under Harvested you find Weather at your plot that day, with one line per source. The About this weather button (the small i) says when each source was read, for which local day, and the source's licence.
Temperatures, rain and wind read in your units: °C, mm and km/h, or °F, inches and mph if you or your company use US units (the Units choice in the header).
Plantings, sprayings and irrigation recorded on the plot get their weather too: see Record field work on your plots.
Two sources, never mixed
- OpenWeather gives the day's weather the day after it.
- ERA5, from the Copernicus Climate Change Service, is a reanalysis that weather scientists use as a reference. It arrives about 5 days after the day; until then the line says Not available yet. For its first weeks it is marked as preliminary.
The two sources can differ, because each estimates the weather at a slightly different point near your plot. A-REX shows both, each with its name, and never averages them.
Rain means 10 mm or more in the day; Heavy rain, 20 mm or more. These are the usual thresholds of weather science, not a judgement on your harvest.
It is context, not a record
The weather never changes the lot, its records or its certificates, and approvers never confirm it. It is shown next to the harvest to help people read it.
Advice when it rained heavily at harvest
The check set Field context (advice) can tell you when a lot was harvested on a day with 20 mm of rain or more at its plot, by every weather source that answered. It is advice, never a fault: it asks you to look at the lot's moisture and drying records. It starts on trial: in Checks, read its trial report and choose Put this version in use now when you want it to open findings. A finding you checked and found fine can be dismissed with your reason.
What auditors see
People you give access to through the verifier portal see the weather of the harvest day only when their access uses the EUDR profile, which already shows the plot's location. With any other profile they do not see it, because the weather of a given day could tell roughly where the plot is. They never see the plot's name.
When there is no weather
- Add the location of the plot: the plot has no location yet. Open it in Sites and draw the plot or place its point. The weather appears in the next few days.
- Fetched once the day is over at the plot: the harvest is today; come back tomorrow.
- Not available yet: the source has not answered yet or has not reached that day. A-REX tries again by itself; you do not need to do anything. When many harvests are waiting, it can take a few days.
- This lot names no plot: the lot was recorded without a farm or plot, so there is no place to read the weather for.
Your plot's location stays private
The weather is read on A-REX's servers for a point rounded to about 10 km around your plot; your plot's outline is never sent to the weather services. People outside your company do not see where your plot is because of the weather.
